Agri Malaysia 2024, which is the largest agricultural international exhibition in Malaysia, was held at the Setia City Convention Center in Selangor from September 26 to 28, attracting 400 exhibitors who set up 550 booths to exhibit some 800 brands of products. Professionals from around the world showcased their latest agricultural technology and best practices while promoting exchange and cooperation within the industry.
NPUST was also represented at the exhibition with a five-member team, including Associate Professor Lekhnath Kafle and Assistant Professor Pearl Chang from the Department of Tropical Agriculture and International Cooperation; Assistant Professor Shang-Han Tsai from the Bachelor Program in Scientific Agriculture; and Administrative Assistant Hsiu Chu Lee and Project Assistant Eason Gu from the Office of International Affairs.
At the exhibition, the NPUST team put the spotlight on the school’s leadership and accomplishments in cross-domain agricultural research while also holding exchanges with exhibitors from 18 countries. The professional education-orientated exhibit attracted the attention of farmers and manufacturers who came to inquire on behalf of their children, relatives, and friends about opportunities to study at NPUST. On top of this, many of NPUST’s Malaysian alumni who have gone on to enjoy success in the local agricultural sector were also exhibiting at the fair, and their presence helped to further boost NPUST’s reputation as a successful cultivator of professional agriculturalist.
The exhibition was also an excellent opportunity for the team from NPUST to get a better understanding of the current agriculture scene in Malaysia. As they conversed with farmers who came to their booth, they were introduced to new information that inspired research topics focused on-site problem solving. While in the area, the NPUST team also had the opportunity to visit principals and teachers of the nearby Kwang Hua Private High School and Pin Hwa High School. At the two schools, they provided introductions to the features of NPUST’s programs and built friendships which will allow them to continue to expand the university’s international USR practices, create new local projects, and attract more young students to study at NPUST in the future.
